Thank you for your interest in working for Valley Bus Lines
Ltd. as a school bus driver. Before you can work as a school bus driver you must
first obtain a B-class license. There are 2 ways to obtain your Class “B”
license.
The first is through an MTO driver examination centre. You can present them with
a completed drivers medical form, complete your eye test, and written test,
initiate the MTO internal criminal record check (this may take up to 4 weeks to
clear) and book your road test through the Ministry of Transportation in Smiths
Falls or Winchester. They typically schedule 4 or 5 weeks out for a road test.
Let us know your date and we will assist you in preparing for the road test.
After your road test is completed (and passed!) you can return to us for Company
Policy and Procedures training and School Board Policy training. At that time
you may formally apply to us and possibly be hired.
The second is to register your completed medical with an MTO Driver Examination
Center and complete your entire training with us in a 36 hour comprehensive
Ministry approved Licensing course. Depending on your availability, this may
take a week, or 10 days (36 hours of training minimum). In either case you will
require the following before you begin:
- Application- include at least 2 professional references. Please
ensure all the information is in place for us to contact your references.
- Medical form-this form is standard from the Ministry of
Transportation of Ontario. We can give you the form for your doctor to fill out.
Please note that your doctor will likely charge you for this as they are not
covered by OHIP. File this form at a Driver Exam Office (and leave a copy with
us). This is a good time to get your vision test, if required, and initiate your
criminal record search(see below).
- Criminal Record Check-you will require 2 checks. One will be from
the police force that has jurisdiction over your place of residence, and one is
to be initiated at a MTO driver exam office (Smiths Falls, Winchester or Walkely
Rd.)
- Driver Abstract-license bureau (Any location) ($12)
- Copy of Drivers License
Once these items are in your file, and we have checked your references and
deemed you suitable, you may commence training with us. We will ensure that you
are a safe driver, that you understand rules of safety, can complete a competent
circle check, and can manage a load of students, among other things. You will
also be made aware of School Board Policies and practices as well as Company
Policies and Procedures. If you enjoy children, and are looking for regular,
part-time work, then school bus driving could be what you are looking for.
Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any more questions or want more
information.
